During a time when many foster children are facing increased challenges and needs, 6-year-old “Aaron”* is fortunate to have been placed with a caregiver who can provide for him and his foster siblings.
While Aaron’s assigned Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Michael, knew that the young boy was well cared for, he also wanted to improve his foster youth’s living situation in any way that he could. The CASA knew that in this time of physical distancing and staying home, Aaron’s caregiver was struggling to keep all the children mentally stimulated. CASA Michael took it upon himself to reach out to Voices for Children (VFC) for supplies that could keep Aaron and his foster siblings continually engaged, including games, puzzles, crafts, or costumes.
VFC was able to assist Michael in securing Target gift cards. He browsed Target’s website for child-focused items he knew Aaron would enjoy, and, using the gift cards, had the supplies shipped to the family’s home. All within hours, Michael had supported both the caregiver and his case youth with resources to remain active and learning while at home.
While Michael has only been Aaron’s CASA since December 2019, this act of advocacy lays the groundwork for future meetings and a strong bond.
Like CASA Michael, you can help connect a child to the resources they need to flourish. Learn how you can positively impact the life of a foster child by becoming a CASA volunteer. You can also help to provide this unique advocacy by making a donation to support our CASA program.
