In 2023, Voices for Children (VFC) proudly partnered with the DevTo Support Foundation to bring a ray of hope and unwavering support to vulnerable youth in the Coachella Valley. DevTo’s mission to empower disadvantaged youth aligns perfectly with VFC’s dedication to ensuring that children in foster care have the resources they need to heal from past trauma and become independent, self-sufficient, and productive members of the community. This partnership provided Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) to five transitional-age youth aged 16 to 21, who have already started to make a significant difference in their lives over the course of one year.
CASAs are the cornerstone of VFC’s efforts to help youth in foster care overcome obstacles and build brighter futures. These dedicated volunteers serve as both mentors and advocates, playing a pivotal role in guiding youth through the complexities of their lives and ensuring they have access to vital resources. Their commitment and dedication are instrumental in addressing a wide range of needs, including mental and physical health, stable housing, education, career pathways, and overall well-being. With the support of VFC staff, CASAs tailor their advocacy to meet each youth’s specific needs and goals. This personalized approach might involve helping a youth explore vocational opportunities, providing financial literacy education, or connecting them with mental health resources. For many of these teens, their CASA is not only their first adult role model but often the most consistent adult presence in their lives. This stability is crucial for youth who have experienced uncertainty and disruption throughout their lives.
The partnership with the DevTo Support Foundation made it possible for VFC to recruit, train, and supervise the community volunteers who served as CASAs for these five transitional-age youth. This collaboration has had a profound impact, offering these young people a sense of stability and support as they work towards independence. VFC is immensely grateful to DevTo for their commitment to empowering youth in Southern California, and we look forward to continuing this vital work together.
