The goal of foster care is to reunite children with their parents whenever it is safe to do so. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers often walk alongside families as they go through the reunification process.
CASA Cassie was recently assigned to a brother and sister who desperately wanted to go home to their parents. CASA Cassie agreed that this was in the children’s best interest and was determined to do whatever she could to help make it happen. As the family cycled through five different social workers, CASA Cassie became the most consistent person on the case. She was the parents’ biggest supporter and kept them going when challenges arose. The parents said many times that without CASA Cassie, they would have lost hope long ago. CASA Cassie was elated when the case closed in a happy family reunification.
During her two and a half years with Voices for Children, CASA Cassie has already helped six youth in Riverside County navigate the foster care system. We are honored to recognize this dedicated and hardworking volunteer as our CASA of the Month!
Volunteer: Cassie B.
County: Riverside
Became a CASA: 2020
Favorite part of being a CASA: CASA Cassie loves laughing and making memories with her kids. But most of all, she loves when families let her into their lives and eventually begin to trust and value her as their advocate.
Advice for new CASAs: “Keep an open mind, have realistic expectations, remember all families are in different stages of their case. We need to just meet them where they are and help where we can!”
You, too, can make a difference in the life of youth in foster care. Learn more about becoming a CASA volunteer.
