CASA Reggie Branch Named a 2023 Top 50 Black Leader of Influence
Reggie Branch has recently been recognized as one of San Diego Business Journal’s Top 50 Black Leaders of Influence for his outstanding work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer with Voices for Children (VFC), as well as his exemplary contributions to our local community. CASA Reggie’s commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others has been truly remarkable, and his advocacy work with local youth in foster care is just one example of his dedication to helping others. VFC staff members Paul Ammons and Victoria Valencia had the opportunity to cheer on CASA Reggie at a special recognition event on Thursday, February 28 at the University Club celebrating all this year’s winners.
CASA Reggie’s work as a CASA volunteer has been nothing short of outstanding. His greatest strength, according to his VFC Advocacy Supervisor, has been his patience with the youth with whom he is matched. CASA Reggie takes the time to let the youth open up and create an authentic and trusting bond. He also identifies what services or supports the youth may need to best advocate for them in court.
Recently, CASA Reggie’s assigned youth became a father. CASA Reggie supported his youth in becoming a strong, positive presence in the child’s life. Through his consistent and caring advocacy, CASA Reggie is now helping change the trajectory of multiple generations.
In addition to being an active CASA, he also assists with the recruitment of new VFC volunteers as a member of our Outreach Team. He regularly participates in volunteer information sessions and community events, helping spread awareness of the importance of the CASA role. Additionally, he has helped organize multiple Real Word Speakers Panels at his workplace, Ajinomoto Bio-Pharma Services. These panels have created opportunities for staff to hear from young adults who currently live or have lived in foster care and how having a CASA has positively changed their lives.
CASA Reggie also serves as an Executive Member of the Community Liaison/Corporate Counsel for the North County NAACP. A thoughtful community connector, CASA Reggie created an opportunity for a partnership between VFC and the NAACP, allowing for the recruitment of more volunteers of color, a critical need for our youth.
CASA Reggie’s recognition as one of San Diego Business Journal’s Top 50 Black Leaders is well-deserved. His devotion as a CASA has made a positive impact on the lives of children living in the foster care system. Thank you, CASA Reggie, for all your phenomenal contributions to VFC and the San Diego County community!
