At our core, Voices for Children exists to speak up on behalf of our community’s most vulnerable children whose voices too often are not heard. We are honored to be a place where our staff, volunteers, and supporters come together to show compassion and to take action to make a difference.
There is no place for acts of racial violence, intolerance, or hatred in our society. Acts of discrimination based on the color of one’s skin, and in particular the continued acts of violence and other injustices against Black men, women, and children in our country, violate human dignity and silence the voices of those whose perspectives and experiences need to be heard.
Across our country, systemic inequities have contributed to a disproportionate representation of children of color in the foster care system. Not only that, but the injustices that we are witnessing weigh heavily on those children. Many fear for their own safety and have difficult questions about what they are seeing in the news and in their neighborhoods.
We are committed to putting our values into action by taking steps to advance inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity in our work. Among our priorities are ways in which we can equip our Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers so that they can best support their case children during these times and beyond. By doing so, we hope to increase the depth of our advocacy and create more equitable outcomes for the children we are committed to serving.
Our team is eager to contribute to justice and healing in our community and for the benefit of the children we serve. We are grateful to our volunteers, supporters, and many partners for your shared commitment to children in foster care.
